It is often heard that one loves the sea, but is afraid of it, an oxymoron, since no one is afraid of something they love, nor does they love something they fear. Greece occupies the 11th place among the countries with the longest coastline (13,676 km), as it has many islands.
According to the 2011 census, there are approximately 6,000 islands, islets and rocky islets in Greece. Of these only 227 are inhabited and of which only 53 have a population of more than 1,000 inhabitants. According to the same census, the total population living on the islands is 1,754,325. Unfortunately, however, seamanship, education and engagement with the liquid element of nature, the sea, which covers 70.8% of the earth’s surface, finds Greece in incredibly low percentages worldwide.
The sea loves the daring and appreciates those who seize opportunities. It rewards anyone who knows when it’s time to conquer it. And when you master it, it is completely given to you…
