On the seventh floor of the State Department, the debate in the Foreign Minister’s staff caught fire. Asked what would happen to the Cyprus issue, Henry Kissinger asked directly and with clear irritation in the tone of his voice: “Has anyone studied in this building what will happen if there is a war between Israel and Syria next summer and the Russians try to intervene, how can we operate in the eastern Mediterranean without the Turks? ”<\/p>\n
The American minister broke out and started shouting about the attitude, the objections and the endless exchanges of views of his associates. He said: “In three years, when the Greeks will have a communist government and the Turks will be expelled from Cyprus and there will be a communist military unit stationed on the island, we will all start screaming that Kissinger should have said something against Sampson and then all this would have been avoided – or something else pensive that would be supported in the name of foreign policy.”<\/p>\n
The decision to divide Cyprus is hidden in the secret files of Henry Kissinger, which the former Foreign Minister so persistently wanted to keep in the dark. A number of documents, as well as a series of discussions at the State Department, confirm this.<\/p>\n
